October 28th, 2014

Bhí an-spórt againn ar an Aoine. Bhí na páistí go léir gléasta suas agus bhí go leor cluichí  Oíche Shamhna ar siúl againn. We had great Halloween fun in school on Friday. All the children dressed up in Halloween costumes and we had lots of spooky Halloween activities and games.

Dea Scéal/ Great News!

Tá an chéad mhí thart agus na páistí go léir sochraithe síos. Molaimid an iarracht iontach agus an obair go léir atá ar siúl acu. Comhgháirdeas dóibh siúd a fuair cainteoir na seachtaine go dtí seo; Faith, Jena, Leah, Sophie, Amber, Annabelle agus Kate. We have the first month back at school completed and all the children have settled in really well and are all working very hard. We would like to congratulate all the children that have received a special award for making a huge effort to use the Irish language throughout the school day. We would also like to say a big thank you to all the parents for your continued support and encouragement you give to the children.

We are delighted to announce that we will be installing brand new SMART Interactive white boards in every classroom this coming week. These new SMART BOARDS will ensure that our school has the most up to date equipment in order to support effective learning with technology.

Rince/ Dancing

As part of the P.E curriculum Mairead Hackett will begin dance lessons with 1st to 6th class on the 6th of November in the Leisure Centre. Classes will run for 8 weeks and we are really looking forward to it/ táimid ag súil go mór leis!

There are only 3 weeks of swimming lessons left for this term and we would encourage full participation by all children.

Ceol/ Music

Rang a 4-6 are very excited to be taking part in Escalation singing programme that will be delivered by Music Generation An Clár/ Clare (Making Music Education Happen). A musician will visit the school on Monday to introduce the programme. More information regarding this can be found on www.musicgeneration.ie and facebook/musicgenerationclare.

Comhghairdeas!Congratulations to Caoimhe (naí mhóra) and Emma (Rang a 4) for completing the Mythical Maze Summer Reading Challenge, they are pictured above with their certificates. We would encourage parents to let us know of any achievements that the children receive outside of school as we would be delighted to mention them in our Nuacht Litir.

  Sabháilteacht Bhóthair

Naíonáin bheaga, Naíonáin mhóra agus Rang a 1 would like to say a big thank you to the RSA for the high visibility jackets that they received last week. They have all been practicing the safe cross code song and learning the rules of the road. As the evenings become darker we would encourage all children to wear their high visibility jackets/armbands when out walking, playing or cycling in the evening time. Parents too can reinforce road safety at home with the children, the dance and song can be watched on RSA website. Bí slán leis an cód sábhálta!

Ranganna Gaeilge/ Irish classes

Club na Sionna are starting an 8 week Irish language course in the GAA club on Wednesday the 22nd of October, 7:45-9pm. It is a refresher course for adults with a view to achieving simple conversational ability, cost of the course is €10. Beidh sé oirúinach do thuismitheoirí le leanaí sa bhunscoil/ It would be suitable for parents with children attending our school. Fáilte roimh thuismitheoirí/ all parents are welcome to attend!

We like to encourage the use of the Irish language as much as possible in school and at home also. Below are some simple phrases that parents and children can use at home on a daily basis.

Tá ocras orm- I’m hungry.

Tá tuirse orm- I’m tired.

An bhfuil cead agam dul amach?- Can I go out?

Nuacht ó Fr.Arnie: A meeting for parents of confirmation children will be held on Thursday the 16th of October at 7:45pm in Mary Immaculate church. Confirmation Enrolment Mass will take place on the 19th of October at 11am.
